f you can not attend a Hormonal Contraception Start class or would like to explore all of your contraception options, you can request a free, confidential one-on-one consultation with a Sexual Health Peer Educator. He or she will teach you about the methods of birth control and how to determine which method suits you best.
We offer two different consultations:
Hormonal Contraception (1 hour)
This consultation is designed for students who are scheduled to visit the UHS WomenÕs Health clinic to obtain hormonal contraception, but all students are welcome. We cover the basics: effectiveness, cost, use, and associated risks of the hormonal methods of birth control (the Pill, the Patch, the Ring, and the Shot). We will also explain how to use condoms correctly. Then you and your healthcare provider can spend more time on your individual needs during your appointment.
Methods of Contraception (1 1/2 hours)
In this consultation, we address the effectiveness, cost, use, and associated risks and benefits of the many methods of contraception available. We will discuss hormonal, barrier, and natural methods with particular attention to those most commonly used by college students. Actual examples of contraceptives that the student can handle will be made available. All students are welcome.
Call our office to request a consultation. Please be prepared to tell us which consultation you would like and when you would be available.
A Sexual Health Peer Educator will contact you within three business days to confirm the date and time of your appointment. All consultations take place in the SSB. Only UT students may request contraception consultations.
