Constantly thinking about food, calories, or your weight?
Tired of worrying about the weight, shape, or size of your body?
Feeling trapped by your diet and exercise habits?
Not sure if there is a problem?
Want to be healthy but are anxious about change?
Let us help.
University Health Services (UHS) and the UT Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) offer outpatient treatment for a wide scope of eating disorders including anorexia, bulimia, emotional eating, and binge eating. Treatment is provided by a team of professionals and includes medical assessment, diet therapy, and psychological counseling. Individual and group therapy is provided.
Who are the members of the treatment team?
A physician and a registered dietitian from UHS, and a counselor from CMHC serve on the team. All of them have special interest in and experience with the treatment of eating disorders. Depending on the nature and severity of the problem, the student will be seen by one or more team members throughout treatment.
What about confidentiality?
All information is kept strictly confidential. A release of information is requested to authorize the treatment team to discuss or exchange information with one another during the course of treatment. However, it does not authorize release of information to any third party, including family, friends, or the University. Except as required by law, no information will be released to anyone without the student's written permission. For more information, visit the UHS website and click on Privacy and Confidentiality.
How much does treatment cost?
All appointments are free. However, charges may be assessed for lab work and other procedures that may be needed for diagnosis and treatment.
How long does treatment last?
The duration of treatment depends upon the individual and their specific circumstances. The student has the right to discontinue treatment at any time.
How does a student seek help for an eating issue?
