UT students who want either or both vaccines can schedule an appointment by calling the UHS Allergy & Immunization Clinic at (512) 475-8301. A seasonal flu shot costs $20.00, while the H1N1 shot costs $15.00. Visit the Charges page for payment options and insurance information.
Faculty and staff should contact their own healthcare provider or use an online flu shot locator at www.TexasFlu.org or http://flucliniclocator.org. The special campus flu shot clinics available to staff and faculty have ended for the season.
For more information about the vaccines, including possible side effects, review these information sheets from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control:
Flu season typically peaks in February and lasts until May. No one knows for sure what the weeks and months ahead will bring in terms of flu activity. All types of influenza are unpredictable, and this flu season is far from over. We don't know whether there will be additional waves of H1N1, but it is still circulating and still dangerous.
To get a sense of typical flu activity throughout the year, check out the chart below showing recent seasonal flu trends.
Whether you get the vaccine or not, take care to prevent colds and flu. Wash your hands often, cover coughs and sneezes, keep your hands away from your face, and stay home if you are sick. For more information, visit Flu Prevention.
