University Health Services is here to keep you healthy while you focus on your studies at UT Austin. You can expect the same types of services here that you can get from your family doctorÂ… and much more.

  • Appointments are required for all non-urgent medical conditions. Call (512) 471-4955 for an appointment.
  • Call the 24-hour Nurse Advice Line (512) 475-NURS (6877) any time day or night if you are ill or injured and want self-care advice or help determining whether or how soon you need to see a healthcare provider.
  • If you have severe or potentially life-threatening symptoms, go to a local hospital emergency room or call 911.

Our healthcare providers are licensed, credentialed medical doctors, physician assistants, certified nurse practitioners, and behavioral health consultants supported by a highly skilled staff of physical therapists, medical technologists, radiological technologists, pharmacists, licensed chemical dependency counselors, registered dietitians, professional health educators, and approximately 30 nurses. For photographs and brief biographies of our providers, click Our Staff in Related Links.

If your medical condition is such that you need to see a healthcare provider before our next available appointment, the nurses on our 24-Hour Nurse Advice Line may recommend that you come in to our Urgent Care Clinic. (This clinic is not a fully-equipped emergency room and is not open 24 hours.) Typical medical conditions treated in the Urgent Care Clinic:

  • Wounds that need stitches
  • Allergic reactions causing rashes or swelling
  • Wheezing or asthma not responding to prescribed medications
  • Persistent vomiting and/or diarrhea
  • Migraine headaches
  • Sprains, strains, broken bones, and similar orthopedic injuries.
Charges apply for weekend visits and weekday visits after 5:30pm.

If you become ill or injured when Urgent Care is closed, call our Nurse Advice Line anytime 24 hours a day, every day of the year for information about how to take care of yourself at home. They can also help you determine whether your condition could be evaluated when Urgent Care reopens, if a regular appointment at UHS is most appropriate, or if you should be seen at another healthcare facility or emergency room.

We also offer Allergy/Immunization, Travel Health, Sports Medicine, and Women's Health specialty clinics as well as physical therapy. If you need specialty care that isn't offered at UHS, we can refer you to a specialist in the community - just like your family doctor would.
