How to get emergency contraception at UHS
In the UHS Women's Health Clinic, nurse practitioners certified in women's or family healthcare, registered nurses, and a consulting gynecologist provide care by appointment only.
When you call for an appointment, please be specific about your needs so that we can schedule you with the most appropriate healthcare provider. If you are a trangendered student and you would rather receive women's health services in the UHS General Medicine Clinic versus our Women's Health Clinic (or if you are a student who has this preference for any other reason), just tell our appointment staff the reason(s) you are seeking care and that you prefer an appointment in the General Medicine Clinic. They will schedule you accordingly.
Our Women's Health Clinic offers:
- Birth control prescriptions and management
- Emergency contraception
- Pregnancy testing and referrals
- Evaluation and treatment for other common women's health issues such as:
- Menstrual cramps, pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), and other related problems
- HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment
- Vaginal infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Breast masses, fibrocystic breast condition, and referrals for mammograms when needed
- Routine women's health annual exams that include:
- Pelvic exam
- Pap smear to screen for cervical cancer as appropriate
- Clinical breast exam and breast self-exam instruction
- Sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening as appropriate and upon request
Due to high demand, please schedule routine annual exams at least two weeks in advance.
For more information about women's health, annual exams, birth control methods, or any of the health issues listed above, click Sexual Health in Related Links. Women's Health Clinic providers will refer patients to appropriate community resources for services not available at UHS.
