Medical Withdrawals including Course Load Reductions and Cancellation of Registration
Significant medical problems can sometimes affect your ability to attend classes or perform academically. In these cases, you can apply to UHS for a cancellation of registration, a withdrawal for the current or a past semester, or a course load reduction for the current semester.
See Related Links for brochures describing and applications for each of these options. Read them carefully. In some instances the approval can affect your financial aid, housing, and/or immigration status. To proceed:
- First
Contact your academic dean’s office to obtain a completed "Dean’s Office Student Consultation" form. UHS cannot consider your application until we receive it. - Second
Submit to UHS an application for the consideration you are requesting along with documentation from a healthcare provider or medical facility about your condition. If you’ve seen a UHS healthcare provider for your condition, you don’t need to obtain documentation of those visits since they are in your UHS medical record.
UHS can accept your application for the considerations above only for medical conditions that are physical in nature, with the following exceptions:
- You are receiving psychological treatment from a UHS healthcare provider.
- You have been evaluated by or are in therapy with a UHS behavioral health counselor.
If you have been treated by or are in therapy with a non-UHS mental healthcare provider or with a UT Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) professional, please contact the CMHC for information on how to proceed.
