HealthyhornsTXT is aimed at supporting the health and academic success of students at The University of Texas at Austin. Subscribers receive helpful text messages about campus resources and events, physical activity and nutrition, sleep, stress management and mental health, alcohol risk reduction and other general health tips.
HealthyhornsTXT has approximately 28,000 active student participants. Current UT students may text “HORNS” to 866-990-0082 to join the HealthyhornsTXT community. You'll receive 2-3 text messages each week with tips to help you stay healthy at UT. Reply STOP at any time to opt-out of the program. Message and data rates may apply.
Each month, we select five $10 Torchy's Tacos gift card winners. Just reply TXTACOS to our monthly Taco Tuesday message. Follow @Healthyhorns on social media to view each month’s winners.
HealthyhornsTXT messages are crafted by health education experts and campus partners. The topics covered are also informed by HealthyhornsTXT users, whom we survey each semester to better understand what is most useful and informative. Some of our texts also include social norms data that comes from an annually conducted UT Austin National Social Norms Center survey. Survey data is collected from a representative random sample of UT Austin undergraduate students.
Messages are submitted by a variety of campus partners, including programs within the Longhorn Wellness Center, Voices Against Violence, BeVocal, Recreational Sports, Sanger Learning Center, University Health Services, the Counseling and Mental Health Center, Student Emergency Services and SHIFT.
