Services Provided

For advice on how to care for an illness or injury at home or to receive guidance about whether or how soon you should see a healthcare provider.

UHS nurses answer the advice line Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

When UHS is closed, St. David’s Hospital nurses answer the line and can provide advice as noted above. If you need assistance after 5 p.m. on weekdays or during weekends and are not automatically redirected, please call the St. David's Hospital After-Hours Line at 512-770-4585. When UHS is closed, St. David’s Hospital nurses cannot schedule appointments with UHS providers, refer you to specific facilities, help with medication refills or administrative issues.

Eligibility

If you are currently located outside of the State of Texas and are calling about a problem or concern not previously evaluated by a UHS provider; UHS providers are licensed in the State of Texas only. If you are not currently in Texas, please seek care where you are by contacting a local nurse advice line, urgent care or hospital.

Per the Nurse Licensure Compact, nurses working the UHS 24/7 Nurse Advice Line cannot provide care for students who are currently located within the following states:

  • Alaska
  • California
  • Connecticut
  • Hawaii
  • Illinois
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Nevada
  • New York
  • Oregon
  • Pennsylvania
  • U.S. Virgin Islands
  • Washington, D.C.

Alternate ways to access out of state Nurse Advice Line care:

  1. Check the back of your health insurance card to determine if your insurance carrier offers a nurse call line.
  2. Look on your health insurance website to determine if your insurance carrier offers a nurse call line.
  3. Check local urgent care or hospital websites to determine if they offer a nurse call line.
