Services Provided
- Diagnostic x-rays
- Ultrasound exams
To get a radiological exam, you need an order from a healthcare provider. Most exams do not require special preparation. If yours does, your healthcare provider will give you instructions beforehand.
If an off-campus provider sends your order to UHS, please call us at 512-475-8277, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. before you come in to confirm we have received it.
Results are sent to the provider who ordered the exam. Be sure to have the correct spelling of your doctor's name, their current address, phone number and fax number. Orders should include the date, types of x-rays or ultrasounds needed, the doctor's signature and your medical history related to your illness or injury.
Ultrasound appointments must be cancelled 24 hours prior to the appointment to avoid a $25 late fee. More information on late fees.
UHS does not provide MRI, CT scans, bone scans or mammogram services, but your provider can refer you to a local facility.
Billing Information
Radiology services include two components of care. UHS bills for the technical exam component, and Austin Radiological Association (ARA) bills separately for the professional interpretation. You will receive two separate bills.
For more information, visit the Billing and Insurance page.
Sensitive Health Exams and Procedures
UHS utilizes chaperones for all sensitive physical examinations, including breast, genital, rectum and adjacent areas, and sensitive ultrasounds. Patients can request a chaperone at any time. For more information view the Patient Guide to Sensitive Health Exams (PDF).
On-Time Arrival for Appointments
Arrive 10 to 15 minutes early for check-in. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late to a scheduled appointment, your appointment will be rescheduled and you may be charged a $25 late fee.
