Eligibility and Selection Criteria (Required)

Applicants for all practicum tracks at CMHC must meet the following criteria:

  1. Enrollment at UT Austin in the doctoral program in counseling psychology or clinical psychology.
  2. Successful completion of at least 2 semesters of graduate level clinical practicum or equivalent clinical work experience.
  3. Successful completion (or be in the process of completing) all coursework required by the graduate program to be eligible for practicum training.
  4. Commitment to the “Use of Self” training model.
  5. Commitment to providing culturally-informed healthcare services.
  6. SPECIFIC FOR INTEGRATED HEALTH TRACK: Background training or education in health psychology (e.g., completion of or concurrent enrollment in EDP 381 Health Psychology)
  7. SPECIFIC FOR ASSESSMENT TRACK: Coursework or training in formal psychological assessment, specifically standardized instruments used for ADHD assessment (e.g., WAIS).

Additional Preferences for Selection (Not Required)

Counseling Track

  1. Interest in training in a multidisciplinary university counseling center.
  2. Desire to receive training in brief model of providing individual counseling.
  3. Accumulation of clinical experience with various populations and presenting issues.
  4. Experience with conducting clinically-focused intake assessments.
  5. For those candidates interested in the group intervention experience, completion a course in group psychotherapy is considered useful but is not required.

Assessment Track

  1. Completed practicum at a site where formal assessment batteries were done as a component of your training at that site.
  2. Prior completion of ADHD assessments.
  3. Experience with integrated report writing.

Integrated Health Track

  1. Completioned a practicum at CMHC.
  2. Completioned of more than two semesters of counseling-based practicum training.
  3. Have a Bbackground in mindfulness meditation practice and skills.

CARE Track

  1. Clinical experience in community mental health settings.
  2. Experience working in higher education settings.
  3. Demonstrated strong and genuine commitment to the study and application of multicultural counseling principles
  4. Interest and investment in participating in a training program that encompasses a “Use of Self” training model, and possession of the necessary characteristics to be successful in such a program (e.g., self-awareness, openness, willingness to self-disclose)
  5. Interest in training in an academic setting
  6. Desire to receive training in brief individual counseling skills
  7. Clinical experience with various populations and presenting issues
