Eligibility and Selection Criteria (Required)
Applicants for all practicum tracks at CMHC must meet the following criteria:
- Enrollment at UT Austin in the doctoral program in counseling psychology or clinical psychology.
- Successful completion of at least 2 semesters of graduate level clinical practicum or equivalent clinical work experience.
- Successful completion (or be in the process of completing) all coursework required by the graduate program to be eligible for practicum training.
- Commitment to the “Use of Self” training model.
- Commitment to providing culturally-informed healthcare services.
- SPECIFIC FOR INTEGRATED HEALTH TRACK: Background training or education in health psychology (e.g., completion of or concurrent enrollment in EDP 381 Health Psychology)
- SPECIFIC FOR ASSESSMENT TRACK: Coursework or training in formal psychological assessment, specifically standardized instruments used for ADHD assessment (e.g., WAIS).
Additional Preferences for Selection (Not Required)
Counseling Track
- Interest in training in a multidisciplinary university counseling center.
- Desire to receive training in brief model of providing individual counseling.
- Accumulation of clinical experience with various populations and presenting issues.
- Experience with conducting clinically-focused intake assessments.
- For those candidates interested in the group intervention experience, completion a course in group psychotherapy is considered useful but is not required.
Assessment Track
- Completed practicum at a site where formal assessment batteries were done as a component of your training at that site.
- Prior completion of ADHD assessments.
- Experience with integrated report writing.
Integrated Health Track
- Completioned a practicum at CMHC.
- Completioned of more than two semesters of counseling-based practicum training.
- Have a Bbackground in mindfulness meditation practice and skills.
CARE Track
- Clinical experience in community mental health settings.
- Experience working in higher education settings.
- Demonstrated strong and genuine commitment to the study and application of multicultural counseling principles
- Interest and investment in participating in a training program that encompasses a “Use of Self” training model, and possession of the necessary characteristics to be successful in such a program (e.g., self-awareness, openness, willingness to self-disclose)
- Interest in training in an academic setting
- Desire to receive training in brief individual counseling skills
- Clinical experience with various populations and presenting issues
