Brief Assessment and Referral Team

Certain services provided by the Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) require an initial assessment by a member of the Brief Assessment and Referral Team. This brief 15-minute phone call is essential to ensure that you are matched with the service best suited to your needs.

To initiate the Brief Assessment and Referral process, please call us at 512-471-3515, selecting option #3. Our team is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Services Requiring a Brief Assessment and Referral Team Assessment

What to Expect During Your Brief Assessment

During your brief assessment, a member of our team will have a conversation with you, collecting information including:

  • Your name
  • EID
  • Insurance status
  • Your specific concerns
  • Whether you've sought mental healthcare in the past

If an appointment with a CMHC counselor is recommended after your assessment, please share any preferences regarding gender identity, cultural background, sexual identity, or specialty area with a member of our Brief Assessment and Referral Team. We offer a wide range of counselors with various backgrounds, cultures, identities, and specialties. The CMHC has Spanish-speaking counselors, and the TimelyCare virtual mental health and well-being platform provides bilingual and multilingual providers.

Together, we will collaboratively determine the most suitable service to address your unique needs. We are dedicated to providing you with this personalized consultation to guide you in the right direction.
