Abbey is committed to establishing a supportive space where students can heal, grow, and feel truly seen. She specializes in helping students navigate relationship challenges, explore gender and sexual identity, build confidence, manage big feelings, and adjust to life’s transitions. Abbey views counseling as a meaningful way to bridge the gap between where you are now and where you want to be – guiding you towards a greater sense of clarity, satisfaction, and fulfillment. She tailors her approach to fit each student’s unique needs.

Abbey finds joy in the great outdoors – whether she’s walking her dog, cheering on her kids at soccer and softball games, or hitting the courts for league tennis. She also enjoys playing complicated board games with her husband and drinking hot tea.

CARE Clinical Services

  • Students are primarily referred by CNS staff or faculty member. Students interested in learning more about resources to support their mental health can contact Abbey directly.
  • Abbey will assess student needs and offer appropriate services (e.g. short-term counseling,resources and referrals, crisis intervention, and groups)

Trainings and Workshops

  • Topics vary (e.g. stress management, test anxiety, assisting students in distress, perfectionism, procrastination)

Katie Griffin (pronouns: she/her) is a Counselor in the Counselors in Academic Residence (CARE) Program, a program that provides mental health services in academic offices to facilitate students' academic and life goals. She provides clinical services to students in the College of Natural Sciences and is also available to provide prevention and outreach and consultation services to CNS faculty and staff. Katie’s passion is to help her students navigate challenges in their lives by using a compassionate and client centered approach to therapy.

Students may receive support from Katie in areas related to depression, anxiety, identity, stress management, life transitions, and overcoming and coping with mental health challenges. Katie utilizes interventions and framework from CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to assist students in making meaningful changes based on their personal goals. Katie encourages students of all identities to reach out for inclusive, compassionate support.
