How to Submit Your Insurance to UHS
- Log in to the MyUHS/CMHC portal and select ‘Insurance Details’.
- Upload images of the front and back of your insurance card.Many insurance carriers allow you to access a digital version of your insurance card through the member website or mobile app. Students with the student health insurance plan, AcademicBlue can view instructions on obtaining a digital copy of their insurance card.
- Select Rank. Primary insurance is billed first when you receive healthcare. UHS does not bill secondary or tertiary insurance plans, but you may still designate plans as primary, secondary or tertiary as needed.
- Enter the insurance carrier name (ex. “Aetna”), the ID number or policy number and group number exactly as listed on your card. If your plan does not have a group number, enter “N/A.” Need help understanding your insurance card? View our guide on how to read your insurance card.
- Select your relationship to the primary insurance policy holder (ex. “Child”, “Self”, etc.) then enter the policy holder’s name, home address, date of birth and gender.
- Select Save
- Your insurance will remain in submitted status until verified by UHS staff. If additional information is needed to verify your coverage, staff may contact you through the portal.
- We recommend confirming directly with your insurance plan that UHS is in network and reviewing your specific member benefits before your appointment.
If you are unable to submit your insurance before your appointment, please have your insurance card available at check-in.
Already Submitted Insurance
If your current insurance is already listed as either submitted or verified, you do NOT need to complete the steps above. If your current insurance is NOT listed or information has changed, then under Insurance Details: Click on “Add Insurance Plan”.
Using Insurance for a Previous UHS Visit
If you submit your insurance information, AFTER your UHS visit, please send a message to the Healthyhorns Billing Office through the MyUHS/CMHC portal (Messages > New Message > “I want to send a message to the UHS Billing Department”) letting them know you would like insurance billed for past visits, subject to timely filing deadlines required by your health plan.
No Insurance / Self Pay
Select “No Insurance / Self Pay” in the MyUHS/CMHC portal only if you do not currently have health insurance.
